Baby Baylor

On Sunday we visited with the Collets, Aunt Berchie, and Uncle Jim. We were so excited to meet Baylor and see Brodie, too. What a beautiful day at the lake!

Last Day Vacay

As if saying goodbye to the ocean isn't already a little sad, there was an abundance of dolphins near our beach spot this morning. We saw dolphins nearly every day, but today we saw so many! It was hard to head back to the hotel to clean up and pack.

We stopped for the night in Staunton, VA, the birthplace of President Woodrow Wilson. It was fun checking out the unique shops, walking through antique stores, and having a bite out.

Beach Rainbow

It was another scorcher at Virginia Beach - at one point, it felt like 114 degrees. I've never experienced anything quite like it. We enjoyed the beach early in the morning and stayed inside during the hottest part of the day. For lunch, we went to a Mexican restaurant. Later, the girls made friends at the indoor pool.

A small storm came through in the evening, cooling the temperature and leaving a rainbow. When we walked the beach before bedtime, it was cool and pleasant.

Atlantic Fun Park

In celebration of the girls' half-birthdays, we went to the Atlantic Fun Park. It was their first time in bumper cars and on a ferris wheel.

Barclay Towers

We have thoroughly enjoyed our room (532) at Barclay Towers (photo #4, second from the left with the blue awning). The oceanfront view is great, and it's fun to people-watch on the balcony. The separation of the girls' room from our room, including a door, is a nice feature. We have a kitchenette and have saved by eating in for lunch and dinner. A buffet breakfast is provided, and we like eating on the oceanfront patio despite the heat. Speaking of heat, spending time at the indoor pool and hot tub is just right when we're ready to break from the sun. The girls like the abundance of Dum Dums, elevator buttons, and the Disney channel.

Feels Like 109!

Tuesday provided more sunshine and hot temperatures. After playing at the beach and indoor pool, we ventured out for ice cream at Ben & Jerry's. Kit said the cotton candy ice cream was the best she ever had! The dairy-free peanut butter cookie ice cream was great, too. Winnie stuck with good 'ole vanilla. After our treat, the girls spent their money on jewelry, key chains, and a fan at the gift shops.

Surrey Bike Ride

We rented a surrey bike on Monday afternoon and enjoyed seeing the city's artwork, numerous and unique playgrounds, monuments, and landscape.

Ah, the Ocean!

Nothing is as refreshing as the Atlantic Ocean on a 100 degree day!
